Flame Sensing Probe Replacement

Directions

1. Check contents of repair kit. Kit should include a new flame probe, and a splice connector.

2. Make sure heater is off and power disconnected. If your heater is running, perform the following steps to

shut off your heater:

Move toggle switch on control module to “off” position.

Shut ball valve at heater to turn off gas supply.

Unplug heater.

3. Caution: Be sure heater is cool before touching internal surfaces. These surfaces do stay hot enough to

cause severe burns during operation.

4. Find the flame probe on the heater, and cut the yellow wire leading from the bottom of the probe. (Be sure

to allow enough length for splicing. 3 to 4 inches should be enough.)

5. Remove the old flame probe.

6. Insert the new probe, making sure that the metal rod on the end does not come in contact with any part of the

heater.

7. Splice the wire from the new probe with the wiring harness end of the old wire as shown below. It is important to

use this connector because it is epoxy filled. This will prevent moisture from causing problems with the flame

probe.

8. When the wires are inserted into the connector, splice them by squeezing the connector with pliers on top of the

green button. This will connect the two wires, and seal them from moisture.

9. Before restarting heater, reset High Limit Switch located on the heater housing above the burner assembly.

10. Installation is complete, you may now connect power to the heater, and. open the gas supply ball valve. Move

toggle switch on control module to the “ON” position.
